Three Rotary Clubs at Work

Admin

On Saturday, 5 March 2011, members of the RC of Johannesburg New Dawn manned the "book store" at the Humanitarian Distribution Centre in Bedfordview, Johannesburg.  Many people came around to collect, but the biggest GROUP was the PRETORIA ROTARY CLUB, led by its president, ISADORE KAHANOVITZ.

Also on the premises on Saturday was the KAYALAMI Rotary Club, who came to unpack a container sent all the way from Denmark! The content: TOYS collected under the supervision of the Rotary Club of Copenhagen. The toys have been boxed in three broad categories:  soft toys, hard toys and educational. It will be distributed to various causes identified by Kayalami Rotary, as far as a project in Kwazulu/Natal!

RC of Johannesburg New Dawn members Steve, Jenine and Amina salute all fellow Rotarians who spent the day working for the good of some of our country's youngsters!

I am a new Rotarian and a member of the Rotary Club of Durban Bay and I am obviously learning the ropes. I am browsing the 'Net and randomly accessed your page. I wish you well with your service work. I have recently seen a request from a Rotary club in scandinavia asking for assiatance with receiving a container full of goods which had been donated by this club to a school in Phalaborwa. I passed the request on to our DG and that particular request will have been dealt with. However, I was wondering how you organised the logistical and legal processes (permits, tax exemption application, transport and management from habour to destination ect) required to tackle a project of this nature. Did you employ a clearing and forwardong agent? if this was so, were there charges to pay for the service, or did the service providers donate their services? Generally, how did you manage this project? If anyone reads this at this late stage, I would appreciate some information so that in future I may have an idea as to how to respond to such a situation. (note that I am writing from my office computer at the moment, but that I have given my home email address in case I am fortunate to receive a response from one of you.
